Cruse Ships and the Environment
Cruise ships are small floating cities. With 3,000 or more humans aboard, 30,000 gallons of human waste and 255,000 gallons of gray water (all the other waste water from sinks, showers, laundries, dishwashers and such) are dumped in the ocean each day.
Currently, these ships are allowed to dump sewage and garbage that has been ground into small pieces just 3 miles from American shores (except in Alaskan waters). Whole garbage can be dumped in the ocean 12 miles from shore.
