Vayu, a grassroots clothing company, created a unique line of organic athletic wear for men. “We believe the use of sustainable fabrics is a socially and environmentally responsible choice that each of us must make to lessen the load on our environment,” says Fredric Schwartz, founder of Vayu. “In addition, our products are proudly made in the U.S.A.”
Fredric admits sustainability wasn’t their only objective. “A product has to work for what it was intended for, and attention to every detail was consciously worked into the designs.”
Originally designed for yoga enthusiasts, the comfortable, aesthetically pleasing clothes cross over from the studio to the street and are used for a number of athletic pursuits from martial arts to rock climbing.
Vayu carries a limited number of products with a focus on quality, not quantity, as they launch their business. Plans are in the works, however, to expand their men’s line and to introduce a ladies line as well.
The company aims to deliver a consistent message through all of its product offerings, one that appeals to environmentally and socially aware, sophisticated consumers who take their lives and their practice seriously.
Vayu’s pants are made with 55% Hemp, 41% Organic Cotton, and 4% Lycra. Lycra adds just enough “give” for functionality; 96% of the material is made from natural, toxin free fibers.
At this time Vayu offers the men’s Varuna Knicker for $79.95, the men’s Mitra Pant for $84.95 and the Shiva Nataraja graphic tee for $38.00. The company also offers a wholesale dealer program available to qualifying yoga studios, dojos, boutiques, outdoor shops, and the like.
