Alive! boasts that it is 100% L.O.V.E.—Living, Organic, Vegan, Enjoyment. This beautiful, intimate restaurant located at 1972 Lombard Street in San Francisco is raw, vegan, and organic except for a few dishes that may have limited conventional ingredients which cannot be found organic. Even the water used for drinking and food preparation is ionized and alkaline.
Alive! won the 2008 San Francisco Weekly’s Top Ten Street Food award and San Francisco Weekly’s Best Raw Food restaurant in San Francisco award in 2007. They have also scored 100, a perfect score with the heath department, for the last two years. (If you’ve ever worked in a restaurant, you will realize this is quite an accomplishment.)
The tranquil atmosphere includes a heated, Zen garden patio and an upscale, inviting interior. But Alive! reminds us their focus is on their made-to-order food which is free of wheat, other grains, dairy, animal products, and honey.
Take out is available; large parties up to thirty are welcome. Alive! also runs food concession stands at local farmer’s markets, runs a catering service, and teaches raw food preparation.
Alive!’s owner, Leland Jung, tells OLM his customers’ favorite entrees are: King Trumpet Mushrooms, Capers, and Mendocino Sea Palms with Almond Cream Sauce; Flaxseed Flatbread with Cashew Cream, Walnut Pesto, and Tomatoes; and Thyme-Parsley Walnut Pesto Raviolis with Shiitake Mushrooms. His menu includes soups, starters, sweets and organic wine for a full dining experience. Visit them on the web at www.aliveveggie.com for directions and more information. Enjoy!
