Want a quick down and dirty lesson on how and why big business is in bed togethereach
other? How the needs of the people and the environment take a backseat to profi ts? Just
watch Who Killed the Electric Car?
This 2006 documentary, written and directed by Chris Paine, focuses on the short-lived General
Motors EV1, a battery operated car which began to appear on the streets of California in 1996.
Ten years later these cars, which were off ered only for lease, never for sale, were collected and
destroyed. GM refused to renew these leases or to sell the cars to their protesting customers.
Why were these cars created? Why were they destroyed? Prepare yourself. This fi lm is a real
eye-opener.
The good news? Electric cars are coming back and they’re getting better every year. Check
out the beautiful little Tesla Roadster at www.teslamotors.com. Yes, it is horribly expensive
($109,000.00) but costs will come down as more are produced.
Though not yet available for sale, GM claims the Chevy Volt will be a long range electric car
which uses gasoline as a backup to recharge lithium batteries. The Volt is created by the same
team who created the EV1.

long will the government keep up the pretense that we need to import oil to drive our cars?
