One of the country’s most renowned vegetarian restaurants is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Winner of numerous awards, The Chicago Diner - a cozy, unpretentious haven for vegetarians, vegans, and raw foodists admits 65% of its customers are carnivores who appreciate their amazing food.
The Chicago Diner is known for its faux meat dishes like the Radical Reuben, Lasagna, Enchiladas, Tofu Crab Cakes and Philly “Steak”. The owners decided long ago that the only way to appeal to a wide range of customers was to create recognizable “comfort food” as appealing and better tasting than its original meat-based counterparts.
But that’s not all they’re famous for. Try their innovative vegan desserts and “milkshakes.” Favorites of customers who frequent the diner include Cocoa Mousse Cake, Chocolate Chip Cheesecake, Carrot Cake, and the new agave sweetened, cashew-based Raw Cheesecake made with an almond-date-walnut crust.
The menu also offers gluten free choices like the Vegetable Quesadilla or the Middle Eastern Platter with hummus, stuffed grape leaves, feta cheese or tofu, crudités, cucumber sauce, and tortilla chips.
Service includes alcohol with a selection of vegan wines and micro-brews. Sit back, sip a margarita and watch for celebrities. Who knows who you’ll see, but be prepared. Rock stars and movie stars are known to drop in.
