We are committed to living a greener lifestyle. When we moved into a new home and once again became responsible for lawn care we made the green choice—we bought a manual reel mower, otherwise known as a push mower.
It wasn’t the first time I had used one. Years ago, I had used my great grandmother’s mower. I remembered the drill. Lean forward and push with all your might. But the testimonials and the online video made using this new reel mower look so easy. So of course we had to try it.
To our surprise, it was easier to use than the video suggested. And fast. Faster than an electric or gas powered self-propelled mower.
There is one drawback—one the manufacturer does clearly state. Due to the trajectory of a reel mower’s blades, it can’t cut tall grass. You have to keep up with mowing. I suggest a swing blade for the tall shoots of seed grass or weeds that spring up if you lag behind.
It is truly a pleasant surprise when a product works even better than the manufacturer claims.
