America’s food supplies rely on pollination,
but conventional farming practices are
culpable in the loss of bees. Indigenous
bees are easily found in the woods and
lands surrounding organic farms. They are
mysteriously missing from areas bordering
conventional farms. Roving beekeepers
are a growing business. They carry their
hives from state to state to do the work
indigenous species used to handle. But
these worker bees are at risk as well.
They’ve been dying off in record numbers
from infections and poison from herbicides
and pesticides sprayed on crops and trees.
How will we grow crops when we kill off
all the bees?
